Editorial, landscape, and environmental imagery from Iceland and abroad.

Marco’s photographic work focuses on how volcanic and environmental landscapes change over time. Much of this material begins with assignments, but recurring locations and subjects often grow into longer bodies of work, including fine-art series and prints. He follows the same areas through different phases of activity, documenting how eruptions, storms, and slower environmental shifts alter the terrain and the way people move through it.

Living in Iceland makes this kind of long-term work possible. He can return to sites before, during, and after major events, building a visual record that goes beyond single iconic frames. Regular work on Mount Etna adds a second active volcano to this long-term view, with a different setting and pace of activity in the Mediterranean.

The images remain clear and accurate enough for editors, researchers, and clients who need a reliable visual record. Some also develop into fine-art sequences for exhibitions, books, or collectors.

A field based approach

Marco’s photography develops through observation over time. Rather than treating each visit as an isolated assignment, he uses recurring fieldwork to compare changes in form, scale, light, and surface across volcanic terrain, highland areas, glaciers, rivers, and geothermal environments. This approach creates sequences that document how a place evolves while allowing individual photographs to stand on their own.

  • Volcanic Landscapes: Long-term work across Reykjanes and other Icelandic volcanic areas, alongside recurring projects on Mount Etna.
  • Icelandic Natural Phenomena: Auroras, glaciers, rivers, geothermal areas, highland landscapes, and the traces left by changing natural conditions.
  • Environmental & Research Contexts: Photography developed around scientific, environmental, and documentary subjects where accurate geographic and field context is important.

Available for assignments and collaborations

Marco is available for editorial, commercial, institutional, and fine-art commissions in Iceland and abroad. Projects may be one-off assignments or longer collaborations that involve repeat visits and seasonal changes. He works with magazines, institutions, tourism boards, environmental organisations, galleries, and private collectors.

Some projects can later be developed into prints, exhibitions, or installations.

What you can expect:

  • Clear planning and realistic deliverables: Each project is approached around the brief, location, timing, and conditions, with expectations agreed before work begins.
  • Location familiarity: Regular work across Iceland provides practical knowledge of the terrain, weather, light, and seasonal conditions in different parts of the country.
  • Consistency over time: Where a project benefits from it, locations can be revisited to build comparative series or document how a landscape or subject changes across seasons and events.

Projects that require broader local coordination, scouting, permits, or logistical support can also be developed through Marco’s Production Support services.

Recognition & exhibitions

Marco’s photography has received international recognition, including selection for Time Magazine’s Photos of the Year 2024 and second place in the Science category at the NPPA Best of Photojournalism. His work has also appeared in other major year-end selections and exhibitions.
