Iceland Trip Planning is an advisory service for travelers who want to explore Iceland independently but would like experienced local help designing the route. Marco works from your travel dates, interests, pace, existing bookings, and priorities to build an itinerary that is realistic on the ground as well as on the map.

Planning takes into account daylight, seasonal access, road conditions, driving distances, weather exposure, overnight stops, services, and alternatives when conditions change. For photographers, advice can also include timing for light, suitable locations, and how to structure the route around photographic priorities.

Marco provides the planning and recommendations. You travel independently and make all bookings directly with the providers you choose.

Trip planning built around your journey

Each consultation is built around the trip you are actually planning rather than a standard itinerary. The aim is to make better use of the time available, avoid unrealistic driving days, and identify where flexibility is useful.
Depending on your needs, planning can include:

  • Itinerary design: day-by-day or region-based route planning adapted to your dates, pace, and priorities.
  • Location advice: areas and stops that fit your interests, season, and available time.
  • Logistics: realistic driving times, fuel and service availability, overnight areas, and alternative routes.
  • Weather and seasonal planning: daylight, road access, exposed routes, and options when conditions change.
  • Photography planning, if relevant: timing for light, suitable locations, and how photographic priorities can influence the route.

Every plan is developed for the individual trip. There are no fixed routes or pre-made itinerary templates.

The planning process

  1. Inquiry: Send your travel dates or approximate period, trip duration, number of travelers, interests, and any itinerary or bookings you already have.
  2. Questionnaire and scope: Marco may ask a few additional questions about priorities, pace, activities, driving experience, photography, and seasonal requirements. Based on this, you receive a fixed quote and clear scope for the consultation.
  3. Planning: Marco reviews the route, timing, logistics, alternatives, and any specific questions included in the agreed scope. An optional video call can be included when useful.
  4. Delivery: You receive a PDF or structured email with the proposed itinerary, realistic daily pacing, recommendations, practical notes, and relevant alternatives.
  5. Follow-up: One round of follow-up by email is included for clarifications or reasonable adjustments within the original scope.

Plan your own Iceland experience

Trip planning is available across Iceland, from the South Coast, Golden Circle, Snæfellsnes and Reykjanes to the Highlands, Westfjords, North Iceland, Eastfjords, and routes connecting several regions.

Plans are adapted to the season. Summer itineraries can include areas that are accessible only when seasonal roads are open, while winter planning places greater emphasis on daylight, weather exposure, road conditions, and realistic alternatives. Where relevant, routes can also take into account locations and timing suitable for observing or photographing the northern lights.

Advice can be adapted to interests such as landscapes, hiking, geology, volcanic areas, photography, or a combination of different subjects.

Independent advisory service

This is an independent planning and advisory service. Marco does not sell travel packages, make accommodation, transport, activity, or other travel bookings on the client’s behalf, or collect payments for third-party travel services.

All reservations are made directly by the traveler with the providers they choose. Personal information is not passed to hotels, activity providers, transport companies, or other suppliers as part of the consultation.

When a trip requires services that are better handled through a travel operator, Marco can suggest appropriately licensed travel partners, but the client contacts and contracts with them directly.

Depending on the agreed scope, the final plan can include:

  • A realistic day-by-day or region-based itinerary
  • Driving times, pacing, and seasonal constraints
  • Suggested stops, overnight areas, and useful services
  • Notes on road conditions, weather exposure, and practical decision points
  • Alternatives and backup options when conditions make the preferred route impractical
  • Photography timing and location advice, when requested

Do you offer a call?

Yes. A video call can be included when it is useful for the consultation and is accounted for within the agreed scope.

Do you share prices on the website?

Not at the moment. The amount of work varies with the length and complexity of the trip, so you receive a fixed quote after the initial information has been reviewed.

How fast is delivery?

Delivery time depends on the complexity of the trip and current availability. The expected delivery date is confirmed before the consultation begins.

Can you plan winter trips and remote areas?

Yes. Planning can account for season, daylight, road access, weather exposure, and realistic alternatives when conditions change.
