Production Support

Field production planning, location guidance, and on-site expertise for documentary and TV crews in Iceland and beyond.

Marco provides professional field support for film and documentary crews working in Iceland, combining local knowledge, research awareness, and practical visual experience. He can help with advance planning, location checks, and realistic expectations about access, weather, and logistics, so crews arrive on site with a clear plan instead of guessing conditions from a distance.

In the field, his role can include location scouting, basic permit and access coordination, translation and mediation with local stakeholders, and on site driver-guiding. The aim is to keep movement efficient and safe while leaving directors and crews free to focus on the material they need.

Through his work with the Associated Press and international documentary teams, Marco is used to balancing journalistic standards, time pressure, and the realities of filming in active or remote parts of Iceland. This includes working near recent lava, in winter storms, or in sensitive areas where safety rules and local expectations have to be respected for the production to function smoothly.

Depending on the project, he can be involved only for scouting and planning, accompany the crew throughout the shoot as a field producer and driver guide, or contribute directly on camera and drone work when an extra operator with local experience is useful.

Field support for productions

Productions in Iceland often deal with fast changing weather, limited road or trail access, and tight rules around drones and protected areas. My role is to help crews work within those constraints without losing time. Marco focuses on practical planning and coordination: identifying locations that actually work for the story and the season, checking access options and basic safety, and assisting with permits or communication with local authorities and landowners where needed.

Depending on the project, Marco can work as a field producer, driver-guide, planner, or camera and drone operator, with involvement adjusted to fit the size and structure of the crew. The aim is straightforward: keep logistics and local context under control so visiting teams can concentrate on directing, filming, and telling the story they came for.

What I provide

  • Location Scouting: identifying workable filming areas across Iceland, including volcanic zones, glaciers, coastal sites, rural areas, and urban environments, with attention to access, conditions, and visual potential.
  • Permit Assistance: support with drone authorizations, site access permissions, and basic safety coordination in line with Icelandic civil protection and aviation rules, in cooperation with the relevant authorities when required.
  • Research & Planning: background material, route and schedule planning, simple weather and risk checks, and local insight to support documentary development and realistic shooting plans.
  • Driver-Guide & On-Site Support: driving, on site coordination, and English or Italian translation during shoots, helping crews move efficiently between locations and communicate with local contacts.
  • Camera / Drone Operation: available to film as part of the crew when additional ground footage or aerial coverage is needed, working within the visual approach and technical standards set by the production.

Transport, equipment, and logistical assets are arranged through trusted third-party providers when required.

Trusted by international productions

Marco has supported assignments for the Associated Press and several documentary crews from Italy and other countries, covering volcanic activity, weather related disruption, and national events across Iceland. These collaborations have ranged from fast turnaround news coverage to longer features and scientific field projects that require consistent follow up in the same areas.

With ongoing work on Mount Etna, Stromboli, and other volcanic regions, he offers comparable field awareness and visual continuity in Italy and other active areas. He helps productions plan and operate safely around volcanic activity, providing practical guidance on locations, conditions, and realistic filming options so crews can work effectively without taking unnecessary risks.

Safety, compliance, and local access

Marco is familiar with Iceland’s environmental and aviation framework and helps productions stay compliant with requirements from Samgöngustofa (the Icelandic Transport Authority), Umhverfisstofnun (Environment Agency) and Almannavarnir (Civil Defense) when planning drone use and field operations.

Core strengths include:

  • Detailed knowledge of Iceland’s volcanic regions and sensitive environmental zones
  • Coordination with authorities and local partners where access or permits are needed
  • Fluency in English and Italian for work with international crews and local contacts
  • Awareness of how media, research teams, and government agencies operate in the field
  • Solid field judgement when conditions change quickly or work takes place near active sites
  • Strong understanding of volcanic environments and related hazards

Geographic coverage

Marco is based in Iceland and provides production support across the country, including the Reykjanes Peninsula, the South Coast, Snæfellsnes, the Highlands in summer season, and northern regions. He has experience in most of the main filming zones and with access coordination for sensitive or controlled areas.

He also works regularly in Sicily, with ongoing projects on Mount Etna and Stromboli, and is available for assignments and collaborations in other volcanic regions worldwide when advance planning makes them viable.
