Videography

Field cinematography and documentary storytelling from volcanic and remote environments.

Marco produces video work built on direct observation in the field, from news reportage and short documentary pieces to aerial sequences, time lapses, and B roll. Much of this material is filmed in active volcanic areas and other demanding environments, where planning, accuracy, and a clear reading of local conditions are essential. Assignments often involve moving between ground level coverage, wider establishing views, and closer details that help viewers understand what is actually happening on site.

He works with both handheld and set piece shots, adjusting the style to the requirements of the story and the outlet. When needed, he can manage the full process, from preparation and field production through to scripting support, editing, and color grading in DaVinci Resolve, delivering ready to air or ready to publish sequences.
His footage has been distributed internationally through the Associated Press and broadcast by major news networks and digital platforms, where it has been used to explain ongoing eruptions and related events in a clear, factual way.

Field based storytelling

Marco’s videography is grounded in straightforward field documentation. He works on location as events unfold, following the actual pace of activity instead of reconstructing it later in controlled conditions. Coverage usually combines wider context shots, closer details, and simple sequences that allow editors to cut clearly from one stage of an event to another.

The style is documentary and narrative, with room for a more cinematic look when it helps the viewer read the situation, but always anchored in clear, factual reporting. Sound, pacing, and framing are used to support understanding rather than to add drama for its own sake. This approach keeps the visual language consistent across breaking coverage, longer documentary projects, and short digital pieces, so material from different assignments can be combined or revisited as a story develops over time.

From location to final delivery

Marco films regularly in Iceland and on Mount Etna using compact, reliable equipment suited to remote and difficult environments, including Sony A1 II, A7 IV, A7 III bodies and a DJI Mavic Pro 4.
He captures both ground and aerial imagery, manages ambient sound and interviews on location, and he’s used to working with small crews or solo when access is limited. He is accustomed to adapting to complex logistics, from sub zero filming and fast weather changes to night operations near active lava flows and restricted areas, keeping the setup practical while maintaining broadcast quality material.

Projects are developed end-to-end:

  • Field Production: on site planning, access, and coordination around safety and local regulations.
  • Cinematography: combines handheld work with more controlled compositions and structured drone flights, so sequences feel consistent across different viewpoints.
  • Post-Production: includes editing, grading, and mastering in DaVinci Resolve, with delivery formats aligned to broadcast and digital platform standards.

This workflow provides clients and collaborators with a consistent visual and technical approach across platforms.

Broadcast and digital presence

Marco’s video work distributed through the Associated Press has reached a global audience via outlets such as BBC, CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, Corriere della Sera, and RAI.
Segments from eruptions, environmental events, and field reports have aired on television and across online platforms in multiple regions.
Beyond agency distribution, he publishes selected footage and behind the scenes material on his own channels.

A personal vlog is in preparation, aimed at expanding longer form storytelling and offering a clearer view of how field production, decision making, and post production come together on each assignment.

Core strengths:

  • Access to restricted or challenging environments, with experience working safely around active volcanic areas and sensitive sites.
  • Coordination with local authorities, civil protection, and research teams to align filming with safety protocols and ongoing studies.
  • Consistent aesthetic and factual continuity across formats, so broadcast, digital, and longer pieces feel part of the same story.
  • Adaptable workflows for television, online platforms, and cinematic outputs, with delivery tailored to each channel’s technical requirements.

Selected recent field productions for news

Recent filming including the Reykjanes eruption sequence from 2021 to 2025, with coverage of multiple phases of activity across the peninsula. Projects follow both the natural processes and the human context around them, documenting researchers at work, residents and businesses adapting, and responders operating within active and potentially hazardous landscapes.
